QUESTIONS & ANSWERS ABOUT THE FARMERS MARKET PAVILION PROJECT
Q: Who's behind this project?
A: It's a joint project of SEEDS, the Durham Farmers' Market and Durham Central Parks. Self-Help, a major force in the repair and renovation of buildings in downtown Durham, has volunteered to help with fundraising coordination and construction management.
Q: How is it being funded?
A: From institutions, foundations, companies, individuals and people like you! Fundraising is going well and we hope to break ground soon but we have a long way to go. To date, we have raised over $250,000 and we hope to complete the structure for the 2006 Durham Farmers' Market season.
Q: How will it be managed?
A: The three groups are setting up a co-tenancy agreement that will govern how the pavilion is used and maintained. The building will be built on City-owned land that has been leased to Durham Central Park.
Q: Who can use it?
A: Anyone! The farmers' market is the primary tenant, but the Pavilion can be rented by community groups, family reunions, arts groups, anyone. It's designed to be used often.
Q: How much will it cost to rent?
A: That's still to be worked out, but it will be in line with similar facilities, except that the Pavilion is in downtown Durham and is surrounded by free parking.
Q: Who is building it?
A: It has been designed by Ellen Cassilly, whose office is right across Corporation Street, and it will be built by Durham's C.T. Wilson Construction Co.
Q: How can I help?
A: In a number of ways:
- Make a tax-deductible contribution -- Complete this donation form, make your check payable to Durham Central Park and mail it to 115 Market Street, Suite 213, Durham, NC 27701.
- Host a fund-raising party in your home with fresh produce from the market.
- Encourage your family, friends and neighbors to come to the market, explore all the wonderful things we have to offer and support our campaign!
- Spread the word through your church, neighborhood association, community group, to anyone who cares about the future of Durham!
