Stoney Mountain Farm raises their lambs the old fashioned way, allowing their sheep to graze open pastures. They are passionate about animal welfare and sustainability, and strive to be good stewards of the land. Their grazing system helps to keep the sheep on fresh grass year-round while helping to keep the soil healthy. 

Olga and John raise Navajo Churro sheep, which Slow Food named to it’s Ark of Taste based on the valuable traits of the breed. Navajo Churro genetics are smaller framed yet produce tender, lean, distinctive sweet flavored meat. The breed is endangered because they won’t meet the demands of commodity meats. They also raise Dorset and Corriedale sheep. They are proud to offer quality products from healthy, happy sheep.

We've got two new releases for y'all this week: 

Our Blanc Wine Spritzer and also our Rose Wine Spritzer which we'll be sampling. 

They are fresh and fizzy table wines. Think of it as a “little wine” or as the original seltzer. We love its low abv. The Rose has notes of red currant, cherry and grape skin with a touch of spice and was made with vidal, vermentino, sangiovese, tempranillo and cabernet skins (6.2 ABV).  The White Wine spritzer was made with Vermentino and Vidal Blanc grape skins (5.5 ABV).

FARMHOUSE CHEESE:  We will have our Fresh Mozzarella cheese in the half pound ball size, packed in water to keep them soft and tender. We have some new people learning the ropes of the machine and our recipe, and we may make some ciliegine as well.

Danziger is ready to sell and it has a luscious texture with umami, buttery flavors. Other cheeses are Dairyland Farmers’ Cheese, New Moon,  Carolina Moon, Hot Farmers, Dill Farmers, HIckory Grove, and aged Calvander. Both the Moon and New Moon have a very moist texture which gives a fresh, milky flavor to the cheese. Serve either with sliced strawberries tossed with a little sugar and mint. See you Saturday!

Eva Green is a fourth generation basket weaver. Eva was skillfully taught the art of basket weaving by her mother, Nadine Degraffenreaidt.

Hand weaving baskets is Eva’s biggest passion.  She really enjoys making intricate baskets. Weaving baskets with designs that are difficult to achieve provides a rewarding challenge for her. Eva uses berries, nuts, flowers, vegetables, and anything that will make a stain to dye the reed for her baskets. 

She has been awarded numerous ribbons for baskets and teaches locally at different community colleges.

Yes, it’s still a little cold on some mornings. But it’s not too early to think about dresses. These children’s dresses come in great colors and have the ability to wear like iron. They’re dressy enough to wear to a fancy restaurant, and comfortable enough to wear on the playground. We’ve had some parents who tell us their child would wear their dress every day if allowed – even after it was chewed on by a gerbil. (And by the way, we have experience fixing gerbil holes. Just ask us.) Finally, we’ve had some parents who buy a dress in a size slightly larger than they normally would get. What starts out as a long dress for a 4-year-old becomes a short dress by the time they’re ready to buy a new one three or four years later.

PIEDMONT MICROGREENS

Piedmont Microgreens is an indoor farm located just four miles from the farmer's market! We specialize in microgreens, which are the youngest stage of vegetable crops. Microgreens are great because they're beautiful, tasty, and packed with nutrients. We will be bringing the following microgreens to the market: sunflower shoots, pea shoots, nutrition mix, salad mix, a farmer's choice, and a few specialty varieties, like cilantro, dill, and onion! The nutrition mix is a blend of broccoli, cabbage, and kohlrabi microgreens, while the salad mix is a blend of sunflower shoots, buckwheat, and kale microgreens. The farmer's choice will be a revolving blend of what inspires us each week.

Want to see our farm's sheep flock being shorn LIVE?  From 10 a.m. -- 12:00 noonish (estimated time & weather dependant), the professional sheep shearer, John, from West Virginia will be at the farm shearing off the wool.. one by one.  He has several farms to visit on May 12th.. so I hope you can see him and learn how the process is accomplished.   I know the sheep will be much happier when the fleece is off their bodies with the hot summer months approaching.  This is another reason to visit us for the Farm tour on May 12th!  Bring a bag and take home some wool to compost or make into craft projects.
