**PLAN YOUR ROUTE TO MARKET: The Durham Holiday Parade is this Saturday, starting at 10am, and there will be some road closure around the downtown area as they get set up. Take a look at the PARADE ROUTE to find the best route to the DFM before you go enjoy the parade!

PARKING AND STREET INFORMATION

The market is located at 501 Foster Street in The Pavilion at Durham Central Park. 

Parking can be found on the street around the market, in the parking lot on the corner of Hunt and Foster Street (across from Rise Durham and Urban Durham Realty), in the Ballpark Parking Lot on Corporation Street, and in the Measurement Inc. lot, 423 Morris Street (look for the Durham Farmers' Market parking sign). Handicapped parking is available near the corner of Hunt and Foster as detailed in the map above.

There are also public parking lots along Foster Street and on Morgan Street near the Carolina Theatre.

Please note that the Durham Farmers' Market does not allow dogs or other pets in the market area during market hours. Service animals are exempt from this rule. Leashed pets are welcome elsewhere throughout Durham Central Park.

LAKAY FARM

LaKay is a poultry farm located in Louisburg, North Carolina. Dulime and Myrlande are Haitian farmers going back to their roots, growing fresh vegetables and fruits while raising registered Nubian and Nigerian Dwarf goats holistically. They follow regenerative techniques and raise their animals as humanly as possible with no hormones or additives.

MISTY MORNING RANCH

Misty Morning Ranch is a small family run farm in North Carolina. Driven by our passion for sustainable agriculture we started raising ostriches in 2016. After leaving the city life of Los Angeles behind, husband and wife team, Gaby and Ryan, found a beautiful 60-acre ranch in Robbins, NC. With the mentoring and support from Hilltop Ostrich Farm, Misty Morning Ranch began raising ostriches in 2016.

The Spicy Hermit makes delicious varieties of gluten-free, vegan, and preservative-free kimchi, using local produce from neighboring farms (some of them at the market!).  Kimchi is a traditional Korean fermented dish, usually made with cabbages, though we like to experiment and use other seasonal, local vegetables, such as collard greens or kohlrabi.

STONEY MOUNTAIN FARM

Stoney Mountain Farm raises their lambs the old fashioned way, allowing their sheep to graze open pastures. They are passionate about animal welfare and sustainability, and strive to be good stewards of the land.  Their grazing system helps to keep the sheep on fresh grass year-round while helping to keep the soil healthy.  

Olga and John raise Navajo Churro sheep, which Slow Food named to it’s Ark of Taste based on the valuable traits of the breed. Navajo Churro genetics are smaller framed yet produce tender, lean, distinctive sweet flavored meat. The breed is endangered because they won’t meet the demands of commodity meats. They also raise Dorset and Corriedale sheep. They are proud to offer quality products from healthy, happy sheep.

** FARM NEWS:   

Mario and his helpers have been surveying the damage done by the excessive freeze last week... only about 1/2 of the 'Sungold' tomato plants froze.. YAH... they were double covered inside a solar greenhouse.  When it gets to 19 degrees.. We were lucky only half died.  Everything outside remains covered with protective row covers... but it only protects the vegetables so much.  Even the strawberry tender crop was covered..  a huge job.    

The tunnels/greenhouses are packed full of tender and beautiful organic vegetables to hopefully get us through some of the winter.. but this does not include excessive low temperatures.   The men are opening and closing the greenhouses based on the temperatures outside and inside daily.   

Holiday WREATHS:  Place your order as soon as possible this week for your handmade holiday wreath.... made from cedar (several types), boxwood, pine, magnolia, holly berry, eucalyptus, rosemary, pine cones, red berries, and more.. all greenery from the Farm.  Prices are $50 for the smaller wreaths and $75 for the large wreaths.  These are custom handmade by Mario.  He and his helper even climb the trees for the best foliage!   Order and reserve yours today.   Some of you purchase a wreath instead of a tree!

CHAPEL HILL CREAMERY

We'll have ripe Carolina Moon and our younger New Moon on Saturday. Carolina Moon is like a Camembert which becomes softer and  richer as it ages. The small New Moon is less aged. Above is a picture of Carolina Moon when it was 3 days old with no rind yet developed.

Other cheeses are soft and pungent Danziger cheese, tangy, unaged Dairyland Famers, Hot Farmers, Dill Farmers, savory Hickory Grove, and aged Calvander, similar to Asiago.

Ground beef is back! Make chili or a delicious cheeseburger. A little stew beef is also available. Jersey beef ranks high for flavor and our herd is Animal Welfare Approved.
