PARKING AND STREET INFORMATION

The market is located at 501 Foster Street in The Pavilion at Durham Central Park. 

Parking can be found on the street around the market, in the parking lot on the corner of Hunt and Foster Street (across from Rise Durham and Urban Durham Realty), in the Ballpark Parking Lot on Corporation Street, and in the Measurement Inc. lot, 423 Morris Street (look for the Durham Farmers' Market parking sign). Handicapped parking is available near the corner of Hunt and Foster as detailed in the map above.

There are also public parking lots along Foster Street and on Morgan Street near the Carolina Theatre.

Please note that the Durham Farmers' Market does not allow dogs or other pets in the market area during market hours. Service animals are exempt from this rule. Leashed pets are welcome elsewhere throughout Durham Central Park.

LIL’ FARM

Hello Vegetable Eaters,

Happy Solstice, New Year and all the many things celebrated this time of the year. Lil' Farm is a comin' to market as usual with Kales, Chard, Escarole, Cilantro, Turmeric and other winter green delights.  In this sad time of world happenings, we continue to be so grateful for our community and our healthy food. It can feel hard to be thinking about commerce or eating future food, or prepping land often these days, so thanks for being the reason we do it. 

It’s time for us to share our 2024 CSA sign up info and for y’all to join us for a fresh, colorful, nutritious future bounty.  This year the CSA will run April 3rd through June 26th (13 weeks). Like last year, we are offering a Home Delivery option and 2 pick up sites in Durham (West Durham and South Durham).Go to www.lilfarm.com, -go into the shop- then choose either the home delivery or one of the pick up options, depending on what you’d like. 

What is a CSA? CSA stands for Community Supported Agriculture. It is a farming model based on developing a direct relationship between farmers and their community. A weekly box of lovely seasonal veggies ( and strawberries!) is the glorious result. This is an opportunity to support a farmer by purchasing in advance the most seasonal and successful crops available while acknowledging that some crops will not always work out with the endless variables at play. The good news is, we grow so many different things you may never notice our secret failings. It's a way for you to directly invest closer into the success and failures of a local farm/ food system.

The CSA box contents will rotate each week as vegetables come in and out of season. You will receive the freshest and best veggies we can provide. We will be sending you a digital newsletter each week telling you what you can expect and ideas on how to use it. The newsletter will be chock full of photos and updates from the farm, as well as rants on whatever happens to be inspiring or bugging us. We grow anything and everything we can, from strawberries and summer squash to greens galore. Please join us or share with anyone who would like to be a part.

SUNSET RIDGE BUFFALO

A family farm for over 200 years, Sunset Ridge Buffalo Farm has been raising buffalo/bison since 2001. The animals are raised and finished on grass, hay, and baleage using no growth hormones or antibiotics. All of their products are from the Pleasant’s herd of North American Bison. Cuts available may vary from week to week depending on inventory.

Located in the heart of downtown Durham, NC, Loaf focuses on hearth baked sourdough breads and pastries. What started out of a backyard brick oven, as a hobby to share with friends and neighbors, very quickly grew to a stall at the Downtown Durham Farmers Market, and settled as a brick and mortar shop in 2011. Piedmont Microgreens is an indoor farm located just four miles from the farmer's market! We specialize in microgreens, which are the youngest stage of vegetable crops. Microgreens are great because they're beautiful, tasty, and packed with nutrients. We will be bringing the following microgreens to the market: sunflower shoots, pea shoots, nutrition mix, salad mix, a farmer's choice, and a few specialty varieties, like cilantro, dill, and onion! The nutrition mix is a blend of broccoli, cabbage, and kohlrabi microgreens, while the salad mix is a blend of sunflower shoots, buckwheat, and kale microgreens. The farmer's choice will be a revolving blend of what inspires us each week.

Many beautiful vegetables are growing inside the solar-powered high tunnel greenhouses... Sungold tomatoes, kales, and more.  However, Mario has been carefully looking after the large outside organic field of BRUSSEL Sprouts.  They are looking great and Mario is harvesting them every week.  Collard plants also look good in their sections of the organic fields. 
This week, we will be picking up more fresh pastured PORK from a downeast USDA processor that is making our eastern-style "heat & serve" barbeque... so delicious and a quick meal.  Whole tenderloins and more bacon should be coming also.

Stock up with meaty bones and make your own nutritious broth during the winter.   Over the weekend, we made homemade broth soup using our wholesome bones and it was so delicious.   The organic potatoes have been cured and will be coming in boxes to the Market, 10 lb . or 20 lb. boxes.

 FARMHOUSE CHEESE: Hickory Grove, our washed-rind cheese is pictured above; it is a semi firm washed cheese that makes a fabulous grilled cheese sandwich. Pair that with your favorite soup and you have a delicious meal. Cheeses this week include well-aged Calvander, Dairyland Farmers cheese, Hot Farmers, Dill Farmers, Carolina Moon, and New Moon, Use tangy Farmers' cheese in Mexican food or add the flavored version to scrambled eggs.

WHEY FED PORK: We have pork bones for making stock and some sausages including Smoked Andouille and Chorizo. Chorizo is full of flavor and not too spicy.

I reload the van, circular wheels roll me and my wares to market. 

I repeat the cycle to set up my tables and wares. 

The sun shines again. 

My camera and eye scan the table, discovering the juxtaposition of the fabric and the glazed pot.

And now, you too can have potholders that match your bowls. 

Look for me in my winter spot on the south edge soaking in the sunshine (or soaking in the rain?)

About Boxcarr: We take inspiration from small Italian farmstead creameries. Our local milk is sourced from a few small family-owned dairies who raise their cows with the greatest of care and highest standards. Milk from our own loved herd of mixed-breed dairy goats is also part of the mix! In addition to supporting these small dairy businesses, we employ a handful of locals, teach through internships, and employ youth through Orange County Second Family Foundation.
