PARKING AND STREET INFORMATION

The market is located at 501 Foster Street in The Pavilion at Durham Central Park. 

Parking can be found on the street around the market, in the parking lot on the corner of Hunt and Foster Street (across from Rise Durham and Urban Durham Realty), in the Ballpark Parking Lot on Corporation Street, and in the Measurement Inc. lot, 423 Morris Street (look for the Durham Farmers' Market parking sign). Handicapped parking is available near the corner of Hunt and Foster as detailed in the map above.

There are also public parking lots along Foster Street and on Morgan Street near the Carolina Theatre.

Please note that the Durham Farmers' Market does not allow dogs or other pets in the market area during market hours. Service animals are exempt from this rule. Leashed pets are welcome elsewhere throughout Durham Central Park.

Celebrate tomatoes and pair them with cheese! We’ll have Fresh Mozzarella for Caprese salad with basil, and some Ciliegine (cherry Mozzarella) for skewers with cherry tomatoes. We also have fresh and tangy Dairyland Farmers cheese, Hot Farmers, Dill Farmers, a little Grating Cheese, savory Hickory Grove, Calvander, Carolina Moon. Make a batch of ratatouille made with eggplant, zucchini, and tomatoes and add farmers cheese at the table or spread it on toast or pizza with melted Mozzarella. Make salsa and spoon it over tacos with farmers’ cheese. Use Calvander for tomato pie or pesto. We can always give other serving suggestions.

Our Jersey herd is Animal Welfare Approved and our rich milk is A2A2. We practice rotational grazing, and are happy we finally got some rain!

WATERMELON GAZPACHO -- In this fruity and complex gazpacho (on the chunkier side), watermelon and tomatoes are balanced with aged red wine vinegar, then joined by cucumbers, peaches and fresh mint.

GOLDEN TOMATO -- This soup shows you what a simple list of high quality ingredients can do. Sugar Hill Produce grows really good tomatoes with great flavor. Their yellow, orange and bi-color slicing tomatoes shine in this delicate, summer-in-a-bowl soup, brightened with aged sherry vinegar. Serve heated or chilled with a drizzle of your best olive oil.

This week, we’re highlighting Loaf’s Tomato Tarts & Tomato and Herbed Creamed Cheese Danish!


Ron is originally from the Ottawa Valley region of eastern Canada, while Jaimie hails from rural upstate New York. They met in a laboratory at Rutgers University, where Ron was researching toxicology in grad school. On their last day of working together, Ron finally asked Jaimie out on a date. They have been together ever since. Ron’s grandmother owned a small cafΓ© in Ontario, and his brother currently runs a bakery in the same province, so making tasty healthy food for people is obviously in his genes. As Jaimie says, β€œRon really convinced me to date him by feeding me such wonderful food.” Now paired up, they began to think of the best ways to approach the art of making quality food. They relocated to the Triangle and Ron started his post-doc at UNC in Chapel Hill while Jaimie took a job with the EPA. Jaimie now divides her time between the EPA and working for Loaf, principally running their Durham Farmers’ Market stand. Ron left behind the test tubes, cell incubators and cultures, and is now baking full-time from his 30,000 lb. custom built brick oven on Parrish Street in historic downtown Durham.

Olga and John raise Navajo Churro sheep, which Slow Food named to it’s Ark of Taste based on the valuable traits of the breed. Navajo Churro genetics are smaller framed yet produce tender, lean, distinctive sweet flavored meat. The breed is endangered because they won’t meet the demands of commodity meats. TERRA CLOTHA

Our hand-dyed T-shirts are soft, but these 5-ounce jersey cotton skirts are softer. We do them in a variety of bright colors, the effect of seeing all of them hanging on the rack is that of soft, flexible Easter eggs. The skirt’s asymmetrical hem gives it a kind of mischievous flare, and the elastic waistband means you can spend a day at the beach, take it out of your bag, and slip it over your suit for a dinner at a nice restaurant. About Boxcarr: We take inspiration from small Italian farmstead creameries. Our local milk is sourced from a few small family-owned dairies who raise their cows with the greatest of care and highest standards. Milk from our own loved herd of mixed-breed dairy goats is also part of the mix! In addition to supporting these small dairy businesses, we employ a handful of locals, teach through internships, and employ youth through Orange County Second Family Foundation.

We distribute our artisan cheeses nationally, while also selling locally to restaurants, shops, and directly to shoppers at the Durham Farmers Market.

Our dedication to family, hard work, and great food are the soul of Boxcarr Farms and Boxcarr Handmade Cheese. We hope you’ll taste that in every bite.
