BONLEE GROWN FARM

Bonlee Grown Farm will be there this Saturday once again! We are bringing the first of the mums and asters, trying to usher in cooler weather. Our pickles and jams have been flying off the shelf, so come and get your pepper jellies (regular, hot, and extra hot), triple berry jam, banana butter jam, hot pepper vinegar, sweet pickles, sweet n sour pickles, and so much more!

CHAPEL HILL CREAMERY

We are winding down on production of our Fresh Mozzarella. We will make it for this week and maybe one more week. Enjoy with cherry tomatoes in a salad or melted on eggplant or a mushroom pizza 

Other cheeses include Dairyland Famers, Hot Farmers , Dill Farmers, savory Hickory Grove, aged Calvander, similar to Asiago, a few New Moons, and Carolina Moon, our version of Camembert. 

We always make sure to make certain seasonal dishes and Chile Rellenos with our Dairyland Farmers is one of those. They aren't deep fried but they are roasted, stuffed with cheese, then nestled into eggs with whipped whites and a dash of salt and sometimes a little corn meal. Serve warm with some salsa if desired. The other recipe is pesto with our Calvander to enjoy now or freeze for the winter. Enjoy the many choices at the market. 

Pick 2 or 3 different styles of our cheese if you want a cheese board for a gathering. Each cheese is distinctive with its own recipe and ageing. See you Saturday!

SUNSET RIDGE BUFFALO

A family farm for over 200 years, Sunset Ridge Buffalo Farm has been raising buffalo/bison since 2001. The animals are raised and finished on grass, hay, and baleage using no growth hormones or antibiotics. All of their products are from the Pleasant’s herd of North American Bison. Cuts available may vary from week to week depending on inventory.

Sunset Ridge Buffalo Farm’s products are available at the Durham Farmers’ Market as well as the Carrboro Farmers’ Market, their home, and on the Internet. Group farm tours are available by appointment. For nutritional information and prices, see their website.

BLUEBIRD MEADOWS

Stuart and Alice White love the environment and choose to farm sustainably, with as minimal an impact on the environment as possible. They do not use synthetic fertilizers or chemicals. Instead, they use lots of compost (worm castings are considered ‘black gold’ among farming enthusiasts), leaf mulch, and cover crops to keep their soil healthy and their biodiversity up. They also hope to incorporate aspects of permaculture on their farm, creating a healthy, closed system with as little outsourcing for material and soil amendments as possible.

Bluebird Meadows offers Wednesday home delivery within a 5 mile radius of Downtown Durham ($30 minimum and $5 delivery fee) in addition to Saturday pick up at market (order before Friday morning, no minimum). Pre-order here.

SHORT WINTER SOUPS

We make inspired vegetarian soups using NC-grown produce.  This is the time of year that we say farewell to our summer soups, one by one.  This past week it was Cucumber Dill.  This week, it's Cantaloupe Mint.  Help us give this soup a good send off at market tomorrow.

Also of note on the menu is Creamy Tomato Masala, a pureed roasted tomato and red pepper soup, spiced with cardamom, ginger and garam masala.  Eat it hot or chilled.  It's fabulous both ways!
