PARKING AND STREET INFORMATION

The market is located at 501 Foster Street in The Pavilion at Durham Central Park. 

Parking can be found on the street around the market, in the parking lot on the corner of Hunt and Foster Street (across from Rise Durham and Urban Durham Realty), in the Ballpark Parking Lot on Corporation Street, and in the Measurement Inc. lot, 423 Morris Street (look for the Durham Farmers' Market parking sign). Handicapped parking is available near the corner of Hunt and Foster as detailed in the map above.

There are also public parking lots along Foster Street and on Morgan Street near the Carolina Theatre.

Please note that the Durham Farmers' Market does not allow dogs or other pets in the market area during market hours. Service animals are exempt from this rule. Leashed pets are welcome elsewhere throughout Durham Central Park.

We’ll have a lovely spread for this Valentine’s Weekend.  For fresh flowers we’ll have Icelandic Poppies, Anemones, and hopefully the first of our fragrant Hyacinth.  We’ll also be bringing a bounty of dried bouquets for some everlasting color, and plenty of gorgeous wreaths.  For veggies we’ll have rainbow carrots, orange carrots, dinosaur kale, sugarloaf radicchio, rosa radicchio, fennel, cabbages and radishes.  For an extra special Valentine’s Day gift we have CSA flower subscriptions available in our online store and we will have gift certificates available at market.  We’re running a 6 week Best of Spring bouquet subscription with drop off spots in Durham and Hillsborough.  Also in our online store we have a dahlia tuber sale happening for the gardeners in your life.  So many incredible varieties available for spring planting!  See our online store for details.  We can’t wait to see you all Saturday morning at 10am.

Based on the Haw River in Saxapahaw, By The Brook crafts seasonal sauerkrauts, hot sauces, condiments, and tempeh (a highly digestible plant protein made from beans). Our goal is to funk up your table with flavor: specifically, the unique flavors that result from the astonishing process of fermentation.

This week we will be featuring our two flavors of hot sauce with peppers that have been fermenting since the summer. This will be the last couple of weeks to get our Sriracha, and our Caribbean-style "Outer Beauty" hot sauce. Piedmont Microgreens is an indoor farm located just four miles from the farmer's market! We specialize in microgreens, which are the youngest stage of vegetable crops. Microgreens are great because they're beautiful, tasty, and packed with nutrients. We will be bringing the following microgreens to the market: sunflower shoots, pea shoots, nutrition mix, salad mix, a farmer's choice, and a few specialty varieties, like cilantro, dill, and onion! The nutrition mix is a blend of broccoli, cabbage, and kohlrabi microgreens, while the salad mix is a blend of sunflower shoots, buckwheat, and kale microgreens. Yes, it’s still a little cold on some mornings. But it’s not too early to think about dresses. These children’s dresses come in great colors and have the ability to wear like iron. They’re dressy enough to wear to a fancy restaurant, and comfortable enough to wear on the playground. We’ve had some parents who tell us their child would wear their dress every day if allowed – even after it was chewed on by a gerbil. (And by the way, we have experience fixing gerbil holes. Just ask us.) Finally, we’ve had some parents who buy a dress in a size slightly larger than they normally would get. What starts out as a long dress for a 4-year-old becomes a short dress by the time they’re ready to buy a new one three or four years later.

With the milder weather this week, Mario and his family continue to plant, plant, plant.. tender plants of organic lettuces, swiss chard, beets, and more... all in the solar-powered tunnels.   Brussel sprouts and collards are still growing outside and both look good. 

Stock up with meaty bones and make your own nutritious broth during the winter.   Over the weekend, we made homemade broth soup using our wholesome bones and it was so delicious.    Not only for me, but my big white, hard working farm dogs, Sally & George, are now getting the bone broth cooked down from the knuckle marrow bones.   They seem to have more energy and look healthier when I top dress the broth over their kibble.
