PARKING AND STREET INFORMATION

The market is located at 501 Foster Street in The Pavilion at Durham Central Park. 

Parking can be found on the street around the market, in the parking lot on the corner of Hunt and Foster Street (across from Rise Durham and Urban Durham Realty), in the Ballpark Parking Lot on Corporation Street, and in the Measurement Inc. lot, 423 Morris Street (look for the Durham Farmers' Market parking sign). Handicapped parking is available near the corner of Hunt and Foster as detailed in the map above.

There are also public parking lots along Foster Street and on Morgan Street near the Carolina Theatre.

Please note that the Durham Farmers' Market does not allow dogs or other pets in the market area during market hours. Service animals are exempt from this rule. Leashed pets are welcome elsewhere throughout Durham Central Park.

Stoney Mountain Farm raises their lambs the old fashioned way, allowing their sheep to graze open pastures. They are passionate about animal welfare and sustainability, and strive to be good stewards of the land. Their grazing system helps to keep the sheep on fresh grass year-round while helping to keep the soil healthy. 

Olga and John raise Navajo Churro sheep, which Slow Food named to it’s Ark of Taste based on the valuable traits of the breed. Navajo Churro genetics are smaller framed yet produce tender, lean, distinctive sweet flavored meat. The breed is endangered because they won’t meet the demands of commodity meats. They also raise Dorset and Corriedale sheep. They are proud to offer quality products from healthy, happy sheep.

We've got two new releases for y'all this week: 

Our Blanc Wine Spritzer and also our Rose Wine Spritzer which we'll be sampling. 

They are fresh and fizzy table wines. Think of it as a β€œlittle wine” or as the original seltzer. We love its low abv. The Rose has notes of red currant, cherry and grape skin with a touch of spice and was made with vidal, vermentino, sangiovese, tempranillo and cabernet skins (6.2 ABV).  The White Wine spritzer was made with Vermentino and Vidal Blanc grape skins (5.5 ABV).

FARMHOUSE CHEESE:  Get creative and enjoy our cheese with all the great produce (and eggs) at the market. Thanks to our head cheesemaker Justin and his wife, Zoe for being inspired by our cheese! We will have our Fresh Mozzarella cheese in the half pound ball size for Caprese with tomatoes and Ciliegine (cherry size) to eat as a snack or appetizer.

Other cheeses are New Moon, Carolina Moon, Dairyland Farmers’ Cheese, Hot Farmers, Dill Farmers, Hickory Grove, aged Calvander, and Danziger. Both the Moon and New Moon are very moist which gives a super smooth texture with a fresh, milky flavor. Farmers is a tangy, unaged cheese, and Calvander (pictured above) is our most aged cheese. We’re happy to give serving suggestions. See you Saturday!

Eva Green is a fourth generation basket weaver. Eva was skillfully taught the art of basket weaving by her mother, Nadine Degraffenreaidt.

Hand weaving baskets is Eva’s biggest passion.  She really enjoys making intricate baskets. Weaving baskets with designs that are difficult to achieve provides a rewarding challenge for her. Eva uses berries, nuts, flowers, vegetables, and anything that will make a stain to dye the reed for her baskets. 

She has been awarded numerous ribbons for baskets and teaches locally at different community colleges.

Piedmont Microgreens is an indoor farm located just four miles from the farmer's market! We specialize in microgreens, which are the youngest stage of vegetable crops. Microgreens are great because they're beautiful, tasty, and packed with nutrients. We will be bringing the following microgreens to the market: sunflower shoots, pea shoots, nutrition mix, salad mix, a farmer's choice, and a few specialty varieties, like cilantro, dill, and onion! Surprise!  With this warmer weather, the asparagus crop has broken dormancy... along with  "Ruby June" strawberries ripening.  Come early for the best selection on Saturday.   Remember, we open the DFM at 8:00 a.m. on Saturdays now.

Mark your calendar for THIS Sunday, May 12th (Mother's Day) for a visit to our farm.  Weather is supposed to be perfect.  We will be participating in the 3rd Annual Franklin County Women in Ag LOCAL FOODS & FIBER Tour.. with 7 local farms open from 10 a.m. -- 6:00 p.m.  Details are on this site with farm addresses:

The tour is FREE to the public and you can purchase farm-fresh food and flowers/plants directly at each stop.  Bring a cooler.  Lunch will be available at our farm. 

Want to see our farm's sheep flock being shorn LIVE?  From 10 a.m. -- 12:00 noonish (estimated time & weather dependant), the professional sheep shearer, John, from West Virginia will be at the farm shearing off the wool.. one by one.  He has several farms to visit on May 12th.. so I hope you can see him and learn how the process is accomplished.   I know the sheep will be much happier when the fleece is off their bodies with the hot summer months approaching.  This is another reason to visit us for the Farm tour on May 12th!  Bring a bag and take home some wool to compost or make into craft projects.
