SUNSET RIDGE BUFFALO

A family farm for over 200 years, Sunset Ridge Buffalo Farm has been raising buffalo/bison since 2001. The animals are raised and finished on grass, hay, and baleage using no growth hormones or antibiotics. All of their products are from the Pleasant’s herd of North American Bison. Cuts available may vary from week to week depending on inventory.

Eva Green is a fourth generation basket weaver. Eva was skillfully taught the art of basket weaving by her mother, Nadine Degraffenreaidt.

Hand weaving baskets is Eva’s biggest passion.  She really enjoys making intricate baskets. Weaving baskets with designs that are difficult to achieve provides a rewarding challenge for her. Eva uses berries, nuts, flowers, vegetables, and anything that will make a stain to dye the reed for her baskets. 

She has been awarded numerous ribbons for baskets and teaches locally at different community colleges.

LAKAY FARM

LaKay is a poultry farm located in Louisburg, North Carolina. Dulime and Myrlande are Haitian farmers going back to their roots, growing fresh vegetables and fruits while raising registered Nubian and Nigerian Dwarf goats holistically. They follow regenerative techniques and raise their animals as humanly as possible with no hormones or additives.

You can find them at the market on Saturdays with pasture raised chicken, and eggs by the dozen

Although we continue to have a good selection of our plants for your home gardens including tomatoes, peppers, eggplant, vine crops, herbs and flowers, the time is now for planting your garden before the heat of summer returns. It is helpful to bring a box to transport your garden plants home safely.

STONEY MOUNTAIN FARM

Stoney Mountain Farm raises their lambs the old fashioned way, allowing their sheep to graze open pastures. They are passionate about animal welfare and sustainability, and strive to be good stewards of the land. Their grazing system helps to keep the sheep on fresh grass year-round while helping to keep the soil healthy. 

Olga and John raise Navajo Churro sheep, which Slow Food named to it’s Ark of Taste based on the valuable traits of the breed. Navajo Churro genetics are smaller framed yet produce tender, lean, distinctive sweet flavored meat. The breed is endangered because they won’t meet the demands of commodity meats. They also raise Dorset and Corriedale sheep. They are proud to offer quality products from healthy, happy sheep.

CHAPEL HILL CREAMERY

Lots of cheese to choose from on Saturday, and each one is quite distinctive with its own recipe, taste, and texture. Plan your weekend, rain or shine, with local cheese and other products from the market. We'll have our golden Fresh Mozzarella cheese in the half pound ball size for Caprese with tomatoes, and Ciliegine (cherry size) to eat as a snack or for green salads. Melt Mozzarella on a pizza or toast with sauteed mushrooms with herbs or with an olive spread. The picture above is a creation from CKay who many of you know from our stand.

Our other fresh cheese is Dairyland Farmers that is a little tangy; use it like feta in salads or add to tacos. Also available are savory Hickory Grove for grilled cheese, Hot Farmers, Dill Farmers, New Moon, Carolina Moon, aged Calvander, and soft Danziger. Both the Carolina Moon and Danziger have spreadable textures. Carolina Moon has a mushroomy, cream flavor and Danziger has stronger umami flavors. We’re happy to give serving suggestions for any of our Jersey cows milk cheeses for cooking or a cheese plate.  Thanks for supporting the market!
