You probably already know that it takes a lot of work behind the scene to make the Durham Farmers’ Market happen every week, all year long. The DFM maintains staff to run the market and has ongoing expenses for renting the Pavilion, insurance, providing community outreach programs and special events. These expenses are all funded by membership and vendor booth fees that are generated week to week.  If you are able, please make a gift donation today to the DFM Friends of the Market fundraiser so we can continue serve Durham.

What does my contribution support?

In addition to the general funds needed to operate, we have a number of programs and projects that require funding each year. Below are some of the programs we will be focusing on in 2024.

  • Sprouts Club encourages and empowers kids to make healthy food choices through educational activities, opportunities to engage with farmers, and an increased awareness of new fruits and vegetables. After participating in the designated activity each week, kids will be given dedicated market money that can be used at the booth of their choice.

  • The DFM is committed to increasing the diversity of our membership to more accurately reflect the demographics of our community. Our BIPOC Vendor Program assists those accepted for membership at DFM with start-up costs associated with becoming a market vendor (stall fees, liability insurance, display items, storage, etc.). These costs were all covered for the first year of membership.

  • Cooking demonstrations will introduce customers to new foods while providing the opportunity to ask questions about cooking techniques, storage tips, and recipe adaptation. By introducing customers to new fruits and vegetables, we hope to increase healthy purchasing and eating habits and generate excitement around cooking, while providing financial support to our 31 local farmers.

  • We strive for the DFM to be a place where community is built, relationships are formed, and comfort is felt. Part of how we achieve those goals is by having all of the essentials that we need -- tents, eating tables, proper signage, and much more.
